Overview
The Community Umpire accreditation is the entry point for anyone interested in officiating table tennis. Delivered fully online, it provides an accessible introduction to the basic rules, equipment, and responsibilities of umpiring. This level is tailored for volunteers, parents, and new officials, and prepares learners for officiating at the club and community level.


Program Structure

1. Basic Rules of Table Tennis

Covers the fundamentals of play and umpire responsibilities.

  • Part 1: Basic Equipment – bats, balls, tables, nets.

  • Part 2: Definitions – understanding common terms.

  • Part 3: Serve & Return – what is legal and illegal.

  • Part 4: Order of Play – singles and doubles rules.

  • Part 5: A Let – when and how a let is called.

  • Part 6: A Point – scoring and how points are awarded.

  • Part 7: Game/Match – format and win conditions.

  • Part 8: Serving, Receiving & Ends – proper rotation and sequence.

2. Community Responsibilities

  •  Working with Children Check (WWCC) – where applicable.

  •  Code of Behaviour – expected standards for all umpires.

3. Assessment

  • ✍️ Online Exam covering rules knowledge and officiating basics.


Completion & Outcome

  • ✅ 100% online, self-paced.

  • ✅ Takes approx. 2–3 hours to complete.

  • ✅ Accredits participants as Level 1 – Community Umpire.

  • ✅ Eligible to officiate at club and community-level competitions.

  • ✅ Required foundation for progression to State Umpire accreditation.

Now that you are a Level 1 Community Umpire, you can sign up for the next State Umpire's course hosted by your state association!

Just remember, in order to maintain your Level 1 Community Umpire accreditation to ensure you meet the Officiating Re-accreditation requirements.
